Knee noise

The rustling, crunchy, or “like gravel” sound around the joint is caused by rough cartilage due to wear and tear. This sound occurs when the knee is moved, strecthed, or bent and is one of the symptoms of knee osteoarthritis.

When to see a doctor

  • Knee noise with pain and pricking, burning, tingling, or numbing sensation 
  • Unable to fully stretch and bend the knee or bowlegs
  • Joint swelling, redness, stiffness, and warmth
