Initial symptom diagnosis / KNEE
Meniscus tear
Meniscus tear is the most common knee injury among those who play sports. A meniscus tear results from making a rapid turn or change of direction or landing from a jump, causing the end of the femur to grind into the top of the tibia, pinching and potentially tearing the cartilage of the meniscus. Symptoms include sudden swelling, pain, and inability to continue playing sports or to straighten the leg.
When to see a doctor
- Knee swelling, pain, and inability to bear weight on the leg after an accident
- Knee locking, stiffness, and inability to straighten and bend the knee
- Repeated knee swelling and pain after playing sports or exercising
