kdms is driving towards musculoskeletal specialist while enhancing Thais’ Quality of Life

Tue, 04 Jan 2022

Since 2021, Thailand has fully transitioned into an ageing society, with people aged 65 years and above accounted for 14% of the population, and this proportion is expected to unceasingly increase in the future.

In 2030, people aged over 65 years will be accounting for 19.8% of the total population.

Looking ahead to 2050, this demographic group is projected to reach 29.8%, or nearly one-third of the entire population.

The challenges of an ageing society are numerous, particularly in light of the declining population, reduced consumption and decreased employment opportunities which inevitably have a significant impact on the economy.

However, there remains a substantial number of elderly people who maintain overall good health. Their brains continue to function well, and they are capable of doing various tasks that do not require excessive physical activities, such as service-oriented activities, calculations, or other tasks that require specialized expertise.

Nevertheless, the common challenges that come with increasing age is illnesses especially chronic illnesses. Apart from diseases related to the cardiovascular system, such as high blood pressure, diabetes, and high cholesterol in blood, a group of diseases that frequently affect the elderly is related to bones and joints which come from the natural aging of the body.

The most common illness in 2018 is knee osteoarthritis, affecting over 6 million Thai people, mostly found in the elders. This is the crucial cause that might lead to accidents and disabilities in the elderly.

In addition, there are numerous bone and joint-related diseases that obstructs the elders to perform their daily lives and work activities, such as hip osteoarthritis, spinal conditions, gout, as well as wrist and ankle pain.

In our ageing society, the elderly population continues to grow, while the birth rate steadily declines. As a result, self-care becomes a critical part of maintaining a high quality of life, making the elders be able to enjoy their everyday lives.

When it comes to treating bone and joint diseases, the most crucial aspect is:

“Receiving a proper and safe treatment procedure from the specialists.”

Khordee Meesuk or kdms is Thailand’s first specialized hospital for bone and joint conditions. It brings together orthopedic specialists from diverse fields within bone and joint medicine, along with a team of rehabilitation medicine experts, who have extensive experiences in treatment and work together to develop special treatments for patients.

This makes the hospital become expertise in providing comprehensive care for bone and joint conditions.

From hospital design to personalized patient treatment programs, kdms offers 6 specialized services including knee and hip, spine, sports medicine, hand and wrist, foot and ankle, and shoulder, and rehabilitation medicine, allowing for precise and tailored patient care.

The hospital also integrates cutting-edge technology into its treatment approach, for example, robotic-assisted knee replacement surgery, which not only enhance precision but also contribute to shorter recovery times and speeding up patient mobility.

Our primary goal lies in delivering optimal care so that the patients can return to their normal lives and “Strengthen Possibilities: Empowering All Movement”.

This embodies the core objective of kdms Hospital.

By receiving proper care, the elderly can maintain good health and live the life they desire without imposing on others while becoming a driving force in contributing to the economy, even beyond the age of 65.
