Pain on Neck and Shoulders


Pain on the neck, shoulder and occipital region, are mostly caused by improper use for a long periods of time. This causes the muscles to contract abnormally and create a painful trigger point when pressed. Other symptoms include pain or numbness in the surrounding area or down the arm.

Another cause of pain on neck and shoulders is the degenerative cervical disc causing pain and stiffness in the neck and decreased neck mobility due to deteriorated joints.

Diseases or conditions which cause the symptoms

  • Office syndrome or myofascial pain syndrome
  • Cervical spondylosis

When to see a doctor

  • Chronic neck pain lasts more than one month
  • Symptoms do not improve after taking pain relievers and correcting neck posture
