Paresthesia on Radial and Middle Side of Wrist

Numbness and tingling sensation on thumb, index or middle fingers are usually caused by compression to the nerves along the hands, arm, or neck area, also as a herniated disc that pressures on the spinal nerve roots. These can generate numbness and tingling sensation in the affected areas. Numbness is the main symptom and may be accompanied by pain. The characteristic of pain symptom is usually neuropathic pain that is specified as dull pain, electrical shock-like or burning sensation. At first, the symptoms may occur during certain parts of the day and are related to certain activities or postures and may occur more frequent, or even throughout the day.

Conditions which cause the symptoms are:

  • Carpal tunnel syndrome
  • Pronator syndrome
  • Cervical spondylosis with radiculopathy

When to see a doctor

  • Pain or numbness increases or occurs more often
  • Pain at night which disturbs sleep quality
  • Pain which interferes with your daily life
