Post-traumatic Neck Injuries

กระดูกสันหลัง

Severity of neck injuries depend on the degree of the accident and can be categorized into 2 grades.

Non-severe trauma, such as neck flickers from ground-level falls, and exercise related injuries, is very common. This type of neck injury is typically due to tearing and damage to neck muscles. The significant symptom is stiffness and pain in the neck that increases as you move.

Severe trauma, such as falls from height and road accidents, can cause either mild injuries or serious injuries which may lead to cervical fractures. In case of cervical disc compression to a nerve root, numbness and weakness of extremities may be present.

Conditions which cause these symptoms are

  • Neck muscle strain
  • Cervical spine fracture
  • Spondylolisthesis

When to see a doctor

  • Severe neck pain that does not improve after resting
  • Neck pain with weakness and numbness of extremities
