Initial symptom diagnosis / HAND AND UPPER LIMB
Post-traumatic Wrist Injury
The wrist is commonly the first organ we use to protect ourselves from injury when falling, it is therefore one of the most frequently injured parts of the body. Wrist pain after a fall can be caused by a fractured bone or ligament damage (also called a sprain). Most fractures can be diagnosed by X-rays. However, if an X-ray does not show a fracture, the symptom may be caused by an injury to the wrist ligament, which are required to provide the wrist’s function. Consequently, if your wrist are painful after an accident, it should be thoroughly diagnosed.
Common wrist injuries consist of:
- Distal radius fracture
- Scaphoid fracture
- Trifibrocartilage complex injury
- Scapholulnate ligament injury
When to see a doctor
- Wrist deformities
- Marked swelling after an injury
- Pain does not improve after using cold pack and taking pain relievers
