Traumatic Back Pain

The severity of back injuries depends on the type of the accident and can be categorized into two grades.

Non-severe traumas, such as ground-level falls and sport-related injuries, are very common. These accidents typically cause tearing of ligaments and muscles in the back. In elderly people who are at very high risk of osteoporosis may face spinal compression fracture. Significant back pain that increases with move is the predominant symptom.

Severe traumas, such as falls from height and road traffic injuries, can cause from minor to serious injuries and can lead to spinal fracture. Especially, in case of nerve root compression from spinal fracture, numbness and weakness of extremities can be occurred.

  • Back muscle pain
  • Spinal fracture
  • Spondylolisthesis
  • Osteoporosis vertebral compression fracture

When to see a doctor

  • Severe pain which does not improve after resting or taking pain relievers
  • Back pain accompanied by numbness and weakness of extremities
  • Back pain from an accident
